Who Da Man?

Ozzie is on a roll and his comments were not only accurate, but it was something that needed to be said about Cowboy Joe West, Country Joe West, or what ever the hell is he calls his pudgy self. This is what Ozzie had to say about West yesterday, “He’s (an expletive),” Guillen said, ”That’s what he is. I just went out to ask him … I’m not going out to argue about the balk because the rule, but I went out to ask him why he’s embarrassing Buehrle and he give me one of this (dismissing him with his hands). When you’re a professional and you have to respect the managers, the way we’re supposed to respect the umpires, they are supposed to respect back.”

This was the most important statement Guillen made, “People pay to watch players play, not to see umpires and managers. I don’t see any people say, ‘I’m going to see Ozzie Guillen manage or Joe West umpire.’ ”

Exactly Ozzie! You nailed it, but maybe Hillbilly Joe was hoping to sell a few more copies of his shitty CD by taking over the spotlight on Wednesday afternoon. Maybe we should call in the Ligue boys to take care of the situation the next time West is in town. Ok, that’s a little extreme, just ask poor KC first base coach, Tom Gamboa, who was attacked by the father/son duo in 2003.

At the very least, Joe West needs to be disciplined for his actions in the game yesterday. Umpires need  to be held to similar standards to managers, not this God-like status where they are not held accountable. Ozzie has rebounded to take a 3-2 lead in Who Da Man?

Who Da Man?

Yeah that’s right Bud Selig open your ears and make the right choice and move the All-Star game from Arizona in 2011 and why not make it Chicago. With SB 1070 in effect the constitution has been put at risk, and no one in the commissioners’ office is listening.

Ozzie finally made some sense when he spoke recently about next year’s All-Star game in Arizona. Guillen said he would not participate in the All-Star game because of the law that allows police to determine someone’s immigration status. While Ozzie’s participation in the All-Star game is very undetermined at this point, as the White Sox do not look like they’ll be playing for a Championship anytime soon, but maybe Ozzie was anticipating a coaching invite from Joe Maddon next year.

The most shocking part of the story is there’s a lot of money at risk for MLB and Selig is surely aware of that. Advertisers may pull out, fans will not travel to Arizona for the game, it probably will not sell-out, and players may not participate. Surely Bud should put aside his pride and make the right decision. Move the game to Chicago, where according to the Census Bureau we have one of the top three Hispanic populations in the country. That would be a statement, as well as a celebration on the field in Chicago saluting Hispanic heritage. That would the right thing to do, but unfortunately Selig will probably make the wrong decision and leave the All-Star game in Arizona.

Let’s hope the White Sox make some noise and make this issue even more uncomfortable for Bud next season. Bud you are not the man and most likely will never be the man. Congrats to Ozzie for finally getting on the board this week, he’s now 1-2 on the season.

Who Da Man?

I knew when this idea was launched it would practically write itself every week, and White Sox manager, Ozzie Guillen, just can’t keep his mouth shut. The latest was over the weekend when the Sox took on the Yankees in New York.

Ozzie took exception to Nick Swisher pumping his fist after a go-ahead homerun in Saturday night’s game. This is what Ozzie had to say about Swisher when he was with the White Sox, “That’s the way he is,” Guillen said. “Good for him. Enjoy it. I wish he could do it for me, he was a very horse (bleep) player for me.” Whoa! Calm down Oz-man! I think Swisher had a legitimate beef towards the end of the 2008 season. He was benched for MLB senior citizen, Ken Griffey Jr., who did not add much to the White Sox. While Swisher struggled towards the end of the season, it’s hard to be productive when you are not getting regular at-bats. The Sox also in need of a lead-off man through Swisher into the lead-off spot. Not really Swisher’s forte.

Of course, Swish being Swish, answered Ozzie’s comments on the field Sunday afternoon going 3-for-4 with a home run, 2-runs, and 2-RBI’s, this is why Swish is Da Man this week! Sorry Ozzie, you’re 0-2.

Who Da Man?

One thing’s for sure, while Ozzie Guillen is the manager of the White Sox, “no one is the man!” Which leads us to our new weekly article called “Who’s Da Man?”

Who’s Ozzie calling out this week; it’s the White Sox savior, Gordon Beckham, who did not play last night. Guillen sat Beckham last night in hopes of letting “Bacon clear his head.” Ozzie could not let it go at that, he had to lash out at the press about pressure being put on Beckham by fans and the media.

“It’s not easy to handle that, and I hope that his struggles right now don’t carry on to him to be the man. He’s not the man, and he never will be the man. As long as I manage this ballclub, no one is the man.”

Ozzie I ask you this, do you think maybe you are preventing “Bacon” from being the man? First, he came up and was forced to play third, where he adapted quickly and had a great rookie season. Instead of moving back to his natural position at shortstop or leaving him at third for his sophomore season, you decided to move him to second. Ken Williams and you see some untapped potential in Alexei Ramirez as a shortstop that no one else can see. His best year as a White Sox player was his rookie season at second, yet we hear stories about Ramirez getting to balls that Beckham could not get to and making plays that Beckham can not make yet Ramirez continues to struggle as a shortstop.

I cannot figure out why player positions with the White Sox organization are a mad scientist project for Guillen and Williams, as they continually move players around. Carlos Quentin seemed pretty comfortable in left field with the White Sox, yet they moved him to right and has not looked comfortable at all. Lord knows moving him back to left would be an improvement over Pierre,  as he is turning into a liability.

Ozzie, maybe Beckham could be the man if you just let him play where he feels most comfortable, instead he’s at second trying to learn a new position yet again this season.

In this weeks segment I think you lose Ozzie and Beckham is da man or will be in the near future!
