However you want to say it , the White Sox are red-hot, and I could not be happier right now. Another sweep this weekend and the Sox will be at the .500 mark that seemed unreachable, and could be as little as 3.5 games out. The gap in the AL Central was closed again yesterday as the Sox won their fourth in a row and now sit at 5.5 out from as much as 10.5 just a few weeks ago. The only team hotter in the AL is the Tigers with seven straight wins.
Gavin Floyd should have won again as he outlasted Stephen Strasburg with an almost identical stat-line. Floyd went 8 innings with four hits, one walk and run, and five strike outs while Strasburg went seven innings with 10 strikeouts, four hits, a run, and no walks. Needless to say Floyd has matched each of his last opponents, but the hitters could not come through.
An even bigger story was the fact that rookie pitcher history was made as Strasburg struck out 32 batters in his first three games breaking the former record of 29 strike outs.
While the Sox couldn’t crack Strasburg they did just enough to win, we’re not looking for style points just wins. With the win the Sox are primed for a sweep since they’ve survived the toughest game of the series against Strasburg and the Nationals. Let’s GO WHITE SOX!!
