The last time league batting averages dipped even close to this low was in 1968 — “The Year of the Pitcher.” To counteract the negative trend, MLB dropped the mound height by almost 50%. You can be damn sure radical new changes to the field, the baseball, and/or the rule book are coming in 2022 to restore balance to the game.
